Inter Miami Owners Percentage Ft David Beckham

Inter Miami Owners Percentage Ft David Beckham

Inter Miami owners percentage is split among the Mas Brothers with 37.5% stake and David Beckham the former soccer player has 30% stake.

When Inter Miami was brought to life in 2014, Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son also had a fair share in the club. Claure possessed the joint highest ownership with the Mas Brothers at 37.5%, while Son held a 15% ownership share.

However, in September 2021, Inter Miami CF released a club statement saying that David Beckham, along with brothers Jorge and Jose Mas, had successfully acquired the ownership shares previously held by Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son.

Miami’s fans have found a reason to be excited with the news of Lionel Messi joining the club as the champion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This is especially uplifting because the team currently lies at the bottom of the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer (MLS), with only 5 wins in 16 games.

Inter Miami David Beckham Ownership Percentage

David Beckham raised his ownership percentage in Inter Miami in 2021. Previously, Beckham owned 10% of the club, but now he has increased his stake to over 30%.

The present co-owner of the MLS side and former England international Beckham came to the United States to play for Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.

He was among the first major European soccer star to play in Major League Soccer, followed by other elite players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gonzalo Higuain.

It is no doubt the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has the most notoriety among the Inter Miami ownership group, with Beckham boasting an astounding 80 million followers on his Instagram account.

In 2007, MLS club LA Galaxy enticed the famous English player Beckham to join them by offering him a five-year contract worth $32 million. As part of the deal, Beckham was allowed to buy an MLS team at a significantly reduced price of $25 million.

After retiring from soccer in 2013, he dreamed of owning a club, and a year later, in 2014, Beckham chose to exert his option and expressed his desire to create a team in Miami. The league announced that Beckham and a team of investors would own Inter Miami CF.

However, it took a challenging four years to finalize an agreement for a stadium. Eventually, in 2018, Inter Miami was officially introduced to the public, and they played their inaugural game in 2020.

The decision turned out to be incredibly profitable because, as of 2023, the average value of an MLS franchise is over $600 million.

Beckham Inter Miami Investments

David Beckham, whose net worth is $450 million injected $60 million into improving Inter Miami training facilities in March 2023.

Since the franchise had its MLS debut in 2020, they have spent tons of money on building their infrastructures.

Their newly built Florida Blue Training Centre is a massive facility spanning 50,000 square feet, located right next to the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, where the club plays its matches.

Moreover, Beckham pumped $15.3 million in February 2021 to further strengthen the team’s financial structure.

Who Owns Inter Maimi CF?

Inter Miami CF ownership is divided among the followings:

  • Jorge Mas – CEO and Managing Owner
  • David Beckham – Co-owner
  • Jose Mas – Co-owner
  • Ares Management

Beckham is partnered with two Miami-based entrepreneurs, the Mas brothers, Jorge and Jose Mas, who hold the majority ownership in the team.

In 2014, Marcelo Claure and Beckham collaborated to bring a soccer team to Miami. Later on, Masayoshi Son also joined them. Together, Claure and Son own almost half of the team, with their stakes adding up to 48%.

Jorge and Jose also became part of the ownership unit in 2017 when they put a significant amount of money into buying 37.5 percent of the franchise.

According to Miami Herald sportswriter Michelle Kaufman’s tweet on June 19, 2019, the percentage breakdown goes like Mas brothers and Marcelo Claure owning 37.5 percent each, Masayoshi Son held 15% while Beckham had the least stake of 10 percent.

On September 17, 2021, it was revealed that Beckham and the Mas brothers had taken over Claure and Son’s ownership shares.

The Mas brothers have a rich family background because their father, Jorge Mas Canosa, was a billionaire and the founder of a construction company called MasTec, located in Miami.

Besides their role in Inter Miami, Jorge Mas is also the president of a Spanish club named Real Zaragoza. Meanwhile, Beckham carries a 10% stakeholding and is a part owner of Salford City, an English League Two club.

Furthermore, Ares Management, a financial investment company, provided Inter Miami with a significant investment of $150 million in late 2021.

This acquisition not only granted Ares Management ownership rights but also offered the possibility of higher returns compared to regular shareholders.
